Between the sun, sand, and sweat, it’s a given that the sunscreen you slather on will inevitably run off on your beach coverup, T-shirt, shorts, and pretty much every other garment you’ve got with you at the beach. Turns out, it’s not as hard as you’d think to remove SPF stains—although it does take a little more work than simple tossing the machine with some Tide.

Here, the most popular—and effective—for blasting pesky sunscreen stains from your cute summer clothes. photo above :wenn.com info via stylecaster.com

HOW TO REMOVE SUNSCREEN STAINS FROM CLOTHING

  • If it’s a clump of SPF, remove the excess with a spatula, knife or a spoon.

  • If any liquid remains, gently blot it with a dry cloth.

  • Sprinkle the stain with baking soda to absorb excess oil and leave for 30 minutes.

  • Shake off the baking soda and gently rub the sunscreen stain with clear liquid dishwasher detergent. Let that sit for five to 10 minutes.

  • Soak in a mix of dishwasher liquid and water that’s as hot as the fabric allows for 30 minutes.

  • Rinse the stain with hot water.

  • Machine or hand wash as usual.
